EMDR Consultation in Albany, NY
Deepen your practice and expand your impact with EMDR Consultation
Congratulations on completing the requirements for EMDR basic training! You went to an EMDRIA approved training, you practiced with your clients, and you completed your ten required consultation hours. You are now officially an EMDR trained clinician, with an effective and in demand approach that will have a profound impact on your clients’ lives.
You could stop your training here, and freely use EMDR as an intervention with your clients. But, if you are looking to deepen your understanding of EMDR, you might be working towards EMDR certification, or you may be looking for some additional support, as you continue to integrate EMDR into your practice. EMDR consultation is a great way to continue to practice your skills, get past stuck points, and learn how to continue to adapt and integrate different approaches to best meet clients where they are at.
EMDR Consultation can help you deepen your understanding of EMDR, get past stuck points, and learn how to adapt this intervention with specialized populations to help even more of your clients.
Meet your EMDR Consultant in Albany, NY
I’m Emily! I’m an LCSW and LICSW with my PMH-C, and have been in practice for over ten years. I have extensive experience working as a social worker, therapist and supervisor in a variety of settings including outpatient community mental health, Emergency Department social work, in collaboration with primary care offices, and now in private practice. My practice is focused on supporting neurodivergent mothers and millennial women.
I completed EMDR basic training in 2023 on a whim, out of curiosity in a popular modality and because I was frankly feeling stuck with clients who were deeply insightful, self aware and still feeling completely unable shift patterns of behavior despite knowing exactly why they were doing what they were. I signed up for EMDR basic training and after the first weekend I was hooked, and my practice approach completely transformed.
After completing EMDR basic training, I went on to complete the requirements for certification, and am now an EMDR consultant in training. I consider myself an EMDR therapist first and foremost, and take a holistic, bottom up approach to case conceptualization of all of my clients. I utilize parts work and ego state therapy to help clients develop deeper understanding of and compassion for themselves, and to help clients with even the most complex trauma stabilize and develop resources to move forward with trauma processing.
What EMDR consultation with me is like
My approach to consultation is much like my work with clients -
highly attuned
relational
focused on your personal growth and clinical goals.
Learning a new modality is intimidating, and it takes vulnerability and courage to learn a new approach, and to bring your questions, cases and stuck points to a consultant. Trauma therapy requires a therapist to be deeply attuned to our own parts, which can bring up a lot in our own work. As they say, we can only take clients as far as we have taken ourselves. While consultation is not therapy, it does require introspection, vulnerability, and an understanding of how our own protective therapist parts might be showing up in the therapy room. I strive to create an environment in consultation that feels warm, safe and compassionate enough to push you into deeper reflection, so you can go even deeper in your work with clients.
Why choose me for EMDR consultation?
As an ADHDer, I can go DEEP into topics that interest me (sorry to anyone I’ve met who politely asked, “so what is EMDR?” and got stuck listening to a 60 minute monologue). Since learning to practice EMDR in 2023 I have been obsessed with learning everything I can, and it has led me to parts work, ego state therapy and working with dissociation and resistance. I have been a supervisor for many years, and I love talking through a complicated case, helping supervisees get in touch with their own parts showing up in the work, and reaching that AHA moment, when suddenly everything going on under the surface becomes a little more clear and there is a path forward.
If you’re looking for an EMDR consultant who will help you better understand and implement the protocol, but will also help you think creatively and really learn to embrace and integrate your own style into the approach, reach out to see if we might be a good fit.

I have my PMH-C and work with many people who are pregnant and postpartum. There are a lot of misconceptions about EMDR in pregnancy or postpartum, which unfortunately intimidates a lot of clinicians away from using this approach with these clients. This is a shame because EMDR can be extremely helpful in reprocessing birth or reproductive trauma, including pregnancy loss or navigating pregnancy after loss, or helping to reprocess childhood experiences that might resurface in parenting. I have successfully utilized EMDR to treat clients navigating loss, infertility, traumatic birth or NICU experiences, or who are experiencing PMADS whose roots may go back to early life experiences.

Clients who have diagnoses, or suspect they do, of ADHD, Autism, or AuDHD, often carry internalized shame and negative beliefs about themselves after a lifetime of being corrected, struggling socially, or feeling different without fully understanding why. EMDR can be wonderfully healing and transformative for these clients, but standard protocol taught in basic training might need some finessing. I can help you conceptualize cases and problem solve barriers working with neurodivergent clients that you might not have learned in basic training.

Standard protocol taught in basic training is excellent for learning to treat single event trauma, and a great foundation for working with complex trauma. Much of my post EMDR basic training clinical advancement as been focused on using EMDR to work with complex PTSD, which often requires an integration of other modalities such as parts work and ego sate therapy in case conceptualization, resourcing and interweaves.
